Fiber optics 1-2-3 Training is a four-day instructor-led course that includes 2 days of classroom knowledge and 2 days of hands-on skills training to provide the practical understanding and skills required to specify, install, test, and maintain fiber optic networks in many outside plant and inside plant applications. The course is designed to provide an understanding of fiber optic technology, how fiber works, various link components as well as industry standards and best practices. Knowledge gained from the classroom session is then applied in two days of hands-on skills exercises.
Audience: New staff members in fiber optic-related manufacturing companies; Field staff who are new to fiber optics; Students preparing for an intensive fiber optic class – recommended as 'pre-class' preparation
Course Length: Up to 2 hours – varies with the knowledge base
Certification: Eligible for BICSI Continuing Education Credits
This e-learning course provides an overview of basic fiber optic theory, terminology, and key product characteristics. It was developed to introduce fiber optics for anyone involved in the industry or preparing to take further training. Designed with the novice in mind, Fiber Foundations introduces basic concepts for fiber optic communications, using easy-to-understand language and examples.
Fiber Foundations is self-paced and will take approximately two hours to complete. The easy-to-understand descriptions include helpful examples and animations to reinforce learning. Trainees will come away with a basic understanding of multimode and single-mode fiber, be familiar with the terminology used for describing fiber, loss, bandwidth, wavelengths, connectors, cables, and other foundational concepts. The course also includes review questions to assure the concepts have been understood.
ETA International Fiber Optics Installer Certification
The Light Brigade offers independent certification through ETA International (ETA). ETA-certified technicians are professionally recognized as having the knowledge and skills to meet international de facto electronics industry standards. ETA certification is valid for four years.
This certification is designed for those working with both multimode and single-mode fibers. FOI certification is available after successfully completing Fiber Optics 1-2-3, Fiber Optics for Oil & Gas, or Fiber Optics for Mining, and passing the FOI certification exam.
